English- Writing

At Emmaus, we want children to be able to express themselves and communicate their ideas clearly.  We want them to acquire a wide vocabulary and an understanding of how grammatical structures contribute to meaning.

We have been working on changing our approach to writing, so that sentence types and sentence structure are how we measure progress and attainment across the curriculum – they are the driver for progress in our writing curriculum.  This is based on evidence from Ofsted's English Research Review (2022) and the Writing Framework (2025), as well as responding to the needs of the children.

Our teaching staff have been working, in conjunction with our Trust, on a new assessment framework, a new teaching sequence and a new long-term plan.  These documents are currently working documents and we are evaluating their implementation.
